Jenny deBeer Charno
Jenny was trained at the Swedish Institute in New York City. She received her Advanced Certificate in Amma Therapy from the New Center for Wholistic Health Education and Research, where she was on staff. She holds an Advanced Practioner Certificate in Cranio-Sacral Therapy from The Upledger Institute, and has assisted in teaching Upledger Institute Programs. Jenny is also certified in Geriatric Massage and Pregnancy Massage and has a certificate in Manual Lymph Drainage and is certified in Complete Lymphedema Therapy by ACOLS.
She holds a Bachelor's Degree from Oberlin College, a Master's Degree in Public Health from Stony Brook University, and an Advanced Certificate in Health Communication from the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science. She leads seminars for Landmark Worldwide, and is a lecturer at Stony Brook University.
Training: Janet’s bodywork training began in 1986 in Central America, where she lived for several years (se habla espanol). She holds a NYS Massage License since 1991, was certified in yoga therapy, and she served on the Ethics Committee of the U.S. Association for Body Psychotherapy during its first four years.
Volunteer work: Janet was in the inaugural group (2009) of massage therapy volunteers with Hospice Care Network, working with dying people and their caregivers. She also has done extensive volunteer massage work with homeless military veterans and breast cancer survivors.
Further background: Major influences include yoga therapy, biodynamic craniosacral, polarity energy work, the importance of relationship, and hospice massage. She has explored countless bodywork and movement modalities, including many years of Pilates and yoga. Her background also includes eight years as a professional field hockey official; and decades as a professional harpist (newyorkharpist.com) and horse farmer (bigriverbarn.com).
